COD's Running & Gunning Salute to Submariners!
« on: July 17, 2011, 10:36:22 PM »
Every year we reenact the only international sub-to-sub rescue aboard COD, marking the day in July 1945 when COD save the lives of 56 Dutch submariners after their boat (O19) got stuck on Ladd Reef. This year we had good weather (too damn hot to be exact!) for what we billed as our "Running & Gunning Salute to Submariners."  The running was our diesel engines, the gunning was firing our 5-inch wet mount. We had good TV coverage and here is a link to one station's video highlights:

Our last skipper, Capt. Joseph Adelman, was on hand to recieve the Dutch flag from a Dutchman portraying the skipper of the O19. The flag was run up our flagpole immediately afterward.

Paul -
Saw this link and was immediately green with envy, and tricolored red, white, and blue with pride. BZ to COD and her crew, then and now, and thanks for the hard work!
