Memorial Day weekend 2013
« on: May 18, 2013, 01:16:52 PM »
Memorial Day weekend 2013 is quickly approaching.  Anything special planned for any of the museum submarines out there?

Cobia will be decked out in bunting Saturday for our annual USS LAGARTO-28 (Manitowoc-built) Boat ceremony. The ceremony is on the deck with music, 21-gun salute, tolling of the bell, etc. The guy who plays taps, used to play at all the sub launchings in WW II. Afterwards, if the engines cooperate, we'll start #1 and #2 and blow the horn. If we are lucky, SS Badger (the Lake MI carferry) will gives us a Great Lakes master salute again.

On the Drum I will fly the signal flags and hopefully have some subvets on board. Battleship Memorial Park does not do anything for most veteran memorial days, they leave it up to the local communities.

The Torsk Volunteers usually do a Tolling of the Boats in uniform, but deck repair work was a priority this year:
