This is an excellent essay about how to properly run a museum ship. Sometimes I wish the Navy would require all museum ships to meet the same requirements that a new venture must meet.

Actually, this is a good article and worth the read.

I agree.  I definately wish I could do more for you guys.  I do not think there is ever enough.  Having made it through my first year here I can definately see how museums (especially us underfunded ones) can only survive with a stronge volunteer crew.

A very good article.  I wish the previous managers read the part about staffing.  I find the quote on the managere working for the staff to be very prevelant.  A former CEO that I worked with held this same pholosophy.  By being in charge you are not in control.  You are just a caretaker or steward for the staff and customers.  Them minute that you step out of tha caretaker roll and into the controler role you will start to run off your help.  Especially when they are doing the work for free...

Been there...done that.  But that's in the past and Rick makes it fun to come to the sub.

Rick...if you leave...I'm hunting you down.   :knuppel2:

Rick, I agree with everyone you are a really good park manager. I am glad you came to get the job, and glad that you love it.

Dittos.  If it weren't for you being there, Rick, the boat would have been on the brink of doom in another 10 years.  No one wants to visit a rotting hulk, except for looters.  That's the problem that they have run into with the WWII destroyer in TX.  A nicer looking boat commands more respect.
