Ben Stein - here's another history quiz
« Reply #17 on: October 31, 2008, 07:26:45 AM »
Shipmate dog the hatch when you come in - don't want any of those guys from "A" gang fowling my nice clean compartment up here.   :knuppel2:

And bring more bug juice buddy - got few tins of pure grain stashed in the bilges.

Next history quiz: Who was Benjamin Stoddert? And why should we remember him? (Hint - he wants twelve but gets only 6) ::)

Stoddert was the first Secretary of the Navy under John Adams.  He wanted 12 frigates built, but Congress only approved of 6.  After the Quasi-War with France was over, they decided only to build 3.  He also started the Navy Dept. Library at the behest of Adams.  He's had two destroyers, several schools, and a street named after him.

Good job Mark.  There is a great book out for a while now Six Frigates, which tells all about the battles, "ear marks," and problems we had establishing a Navy.  It's a good read.

Darrin - can only "dog" the hatch man, if those guys in "A" gang wash their hands let'em come on in. Bug juice for everyone (we'll hide the Gilly)

OK they can have some gilly too.  Damn long patrol rations are gettin' slim... :'(

Gonna "borrow" some gilly from the boat next to us tonight ;)  AFTER the TM's have been invited over for the movie and a drink or two of our bug juice, even gonna invite them A Gang folks and a couple of the E Div folks who roam these boards so they will keep quiet also. Gonna borrow them blind my friend, hate running out of good gilly on a patrol :tickedoff:

I know about them E Div folks and being able to drink, Chief Mike has tried to keep up with me once or twice and his son Jason on the other hand has kept up with me and even passed me the last work weekend ;)

I have a feeling that all the TM's onboard had a stash. If we did have to take readings everyday on the Torpedo Alcohol tank we'd been OK
