Electrical/Electronic systems manuals of interest
« on: December 14, 2008, 01:13:04 PM »
Ok folks,
While it is great that we are doing the school of the boat and familiarizing you all with what should happen when restoring your boats here is some additional reading material that may help you out in your endeavours. All of this material is courtesy of www.hnsa.org

And the list is:

Navy electricity and electronics training series module 1, Intro to matter, energy and Direct Current: http://www.hnsa.org/doc/neets/mod01.pdf
Navy electricity and electronics training series module 2, Intro to Aternating Current and Transformers: http://www.hnsa.org/doc/neets/mod02.pdf
Navy electricity and electronics training series module 3, Intro to Circuit protection and control and measurments: http://www.hnsa.org/doc/neets/mod03.pdf
Navy electricity and electronics training series module 4, Intro to Electrical Conductors, Wiring Techniques, and Schematic Reading: http://www.hnsa.org/doc/neets/mod04.pdf
Navy electricity and electronics training series module 6, Intro to Electronic Emission, Tubes, and Power Supplies http://www.hnsa.org/doc/neets/mod06.pdf

And if you really wanted to know what equipment used to look like so that you may be able to have an idea of what it is that you are looking for when searching the internet or strip ships trying to find the lost/stolen/stripped component to replace the missing ones here's the link for that one also:
http://www.hnsa.org/doc/ecat/index.htm#toc

There will be more later, good luck to all whom are restoring these incredible pieces of history!

Darrin, these will  come in handy. We are in the process of getting things set up to start working on the USS Marlin come spring and I am sure that the radio equipment will need some tender loving care. I'll have to dig out my old books on tube circuits and remember how to zero-beat and all that good stuff.
Not sure yet what navigational equipment is on board. I'll be going up there in a couple of weeks and making lists of things that are there, aren't there, needed working on, etc. Should be fun.

Hey Bill,
there are more manuals at www.hnsa.org, let me know what I can do to track some of the manuals down for you. I posted those that I thought that Torsk and a couple of other boats needed soon.

Darrin, thanks. Once we start making liists and so forth, we'll know more of what we need. I am going to a meeting first week in January, of the Base that will be furnishing most of the guys to help with the Marlin, and I'll for sure be letting them know of Lance's pages and all the help that is here.

No problem Bill,
I need to continue to add manuals to the list so that all of us don't have to dig through the HNSA site. Just let me know what I can do to help and I will try to make it happen
