John's visit to COD!!!
« on: July 21, 2009, 09:07:09 PM »
John and his lovely wife made it to COD on Monday around 11:15 a.m.  It was a great day for touring COD and to make it even more special, our former shipkeeper, Fred McClelland, stopped by for a visit and dose of diesel smoke.  Fred is pretty frail these days, but he makes the effort to drive 30 miles and climb aboard. He is a veteran of the USS SAILFISH (nee SQUALUS) in WWII.

Next to Fred is Boats Flint, COD's COB. John made a point to share his admiration for Fred (and in doing so, made his day!)...

 :)

Pictures!

Thanks to Paul's photo-chromatic skills I look pretty good.  :buck2:

I am always honored to meet fellow submariners who were in WWII - these guys are true heroes - what they did was amazing and our country owes them a lot.
