Picture of Engine Telegraph?
« on: March 25, 2008, 11:37:12 AM »
Tom,

Do you have a close-up picture of your engine telegraph?  Someone on the subsim forum wants to take a crack at reproducing its look for the Silent Hunter 4 PC game.  Thanks.

I was wondering, were you directing this to Tom McNulty (K0EFV) of the Cobia, or Tom Bowser (Drumvol) of the Drum?

Tom (K0EFV), since he posted a bunch of pics of the Cobia before.  I thought maybe he had a helm picture that I could crop and zoom in on the telegraph.

Thanks for the pic, Tom.  I'm looking for one of the newer telegraphs with the red lense over it.  Batfish has them and I thought maybe Cobia did, too.

Engine order telegraphs are definitely fun to operate when powered up!

Mark:
I'm sorry I didn't know you were asking me.  First remember I am good at digging foxholes, firing flame throwers operating airborne radar etc.  Unfortunately I am not Sub Qualified yet. I can dig back in several hundred photos and see if I have one, if not I will take a closeup next trip up.  With this said I need the exact location of the telegraph so I won't have to wander around looking for it.  If you already have the pix you wanted let me know.  PS I am always asked if I know how to take a picture without FLASH.  Yes I do if my memory will remind me to turn it off.

Telegraphs are in three locations:  conning tower helm (main helm), control room helm (aux. helm), and the maneuvering room control board/cubical.  See the other Tom's picture above, if you are still not sure what I'm referring to.  Thanks.

I am not a Gamer and I forgot all about this.  Thought it might interest you.  I was in the room only once and didn't pay any attention to the Cobia's Sub Sim, but it seems to be always crowded in there with people.   I am still looking for the telegraph.  I wonder what's in the game roomfor telegraph?

Of course, at each of the three locations for the telegraphs, there are two telegraphs, one for each shaft.

Make that MOTOR ORDER TELEGRAPH, please!
« Reply #14 on: April 04, 2008, 01:55:38 AM »
Got my ass chewed by a not-so friendly subvet on one occasion for using the term Engine order telegraph... He being a maneuvering watch stander knew them to be Motor Order Telegraphs... and the one pictured is a Portsmouth version. The EB boats had square sided boxes. Not sure if all had red lenses though.
