Wanna tour a sub on-line?
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:30:44 PM »
Here is an idea that popped into my brain...

well actually it rattled around inside my head for awhile, seems the brain doesn't occupy the full cranium   :uglystupid2:

What if we all took a digital video camera  and did a short tour of our subs for display on You Tube and posted the link here.  I am thinking if you kept it down to about a minute in each compartment (point out the unique features) it might not be too big to post and upload.

It is the only way Lance is gonna see COD anytime soon and might be the only way I can see BATFISH, RAZORBACK, and MARLIN as well.

Any takers?

Paul,

Pamp has a virtual tour online, don't know if you want to copy it or design your own but here is the link:  http://www.maritime.org/tour/index.php

Before we lost power during our VJ Day event, a few of our crew members rigged up a video camera mount that you attach to your chest.  The idea was to walk through each compartment and pan each room.  The viewer would also get to pass through each hatch.  They were going to keep the film rolling through the whole boat - bow to stern.

Pamp has done a good job with the 360 virtual tour for each compartment, including several below deck.  Lots of good information on there, too.

Regards,

This is not a QTVR... those are priceless for basic views. No, this would be a short version of a guided tour through the boat for sub museum family members only.

Our HAM tourguide sure puts up a lot of video... guess I need to see how accurate his info is...   :knuppel2:

SOB can give details, but from talking to a couple of people who are interested in shooting pictures of the Marlin and Hazard, seems that the virtual movies are made by putting a still camera on a tripod and then taking hundreds of pictures as the camera is rotated in set changes of degrees through a circle, then the camer is turned 90 degrees and the same thing done. Then somehow that is put together.  That is how it was explained to me, but have never seen anyone do it. I would be interested in seeing a tour put together using a video camera. UTUBE videos can be up to 10 minutes long.
