Mk. 28 Homing Torpedoes

In the last months of the war they started issuing Mk. 28 homing torpedoes to the fleet - Batfish fired several in a training exercise in May '45 before deploying on her last war patrol.  They were modified Mk. 18 electric torpedoes with only one screw to reduce the noise.  Were these fired out of the forward and aft tubes or just aft?

Can't say for sure if they could be shot from FTR, but the ones shot from Torsk were from the ATR.

from every thing that I hear, they were primarily fired from the ATR.

Rich Pekelney is the best resource I think on this issue. He found one of these very rare fish in a parking lot somewhere...

It was a full-size version of the Cutie, but whether it was blown out of the tube (unlikely, IMHO) or a swim out fish (does it have skegs to allow water to flow past?) has to be determined. Also the blowout would deafen the fish for a bit...

Since it's a 21-in diameter torpedo (Mark 18 shell), it would have to be blown out.  I did a lot of homework on electric decoys of that era and I'm guessing that a delay switch would have been installed to keep the phones turned off until after it was fired.
