U.S. PACIFIC SUBMARINES IN WORLD WAR II
« on: November 21, 2010, 12:51:54 AM »
Folks,

We have just added, "U.S. PACIFIC SUBMARINES IN WORLD WAR II", by William P. Gruner to the HNSA web site.

http://www.hnsa.org/doc/subsinpacific.htm

It is a summary of the U.S. submarine war in the Pacific. It was written by William P. "Bud" Gruner Jr., class of 1935 in the US Naval Academy who eventually commanded USS SKATE during WW II.

The scan from which this document was prepared for the web did not include the references at the end of the document. If you have a more complete original, please contact me. I  would like to scan and complete the online version.

Although there is no date on the copy of the document I have, Gruner did this quite a while ago.  Any errata that you think should be included with the document would also be appreciated.

Rich,

I have this document in my library.  I don't think it's the original...but probably a reprint as it has on the back cover "www.ssionline.com" which for you gamers our there was a company that made strategic computer simulations.

There is no date on my copy...but I do have the reference page.  I can scan it and email it to you if you wish.

Please advise.

Best,

Mark,

It would be great if you could scan it 300 dpi and send it to me.  Do you have my real email address?  Or is there a way to send it through this board?

SSI made the first couple of Silent Hunter games.

Thanks for posting this Rich!

Any idea if this book came with the first Silent Hunter game perhaps?  Silent Hunter 2 was about uboats I believe, and Silent Hunter 3 came along after SSI was gone.

I do not know where it came from.  I was sent a copy already scanned.  It is probably a decent guess that it was done for SSI.

I would really appreciate the historians in the group to check the accuracy of what is in here.  Have any of the recent (past 20 years) underwater discoveries changed some of the stats?  Same for the additional translations of Imperial Japanese texts?  Or just plain old errors in the original?
