Title: Any forum issues?
Post by: Lance Dean on March 06, 2008, 07:06:11 PM
I've been doing some little fixes today on the forum.

I had noticed that a few icons/buttons were missing and I think I have those all tracked down and in their proper place.

I also noticed from the admin logs that some of you were having these 2 issues:
1) Errors when you searched the forum
2) Errors when you attempted to log out of the forum

#1 is a known issue with this forum software that should be fixed with the mod patch I just installed.

#2 is something I can't track down 100%.  I think it was either cookie related and/or script related.  I could not replicate the log out errors that some of you were getting.  Anyway, I changed how the cookies are handled with the site and I changed a line in the script.

Let me know if you get ANY errors or notice any missing buttons etc.

I would like to see updated threads move to the top of the thread list in a given forum and the title to be bold-faced.  The "new" button is okay, but it doesn't really stand out.  Just my 2 cents...

Well, updated threads do move to the top of the thread list UNLESS there is a "stickied" topic(s) there.  If so, the newly updated thread will be below the sticky topic.  I don't know how to make the newly updated thread post bold-faced (it would be nice) but I can make the "new" button more noticeable.  Hmm...

Are any of the topics stickied in this sub-forum?  This thread is #4 on my list, even though it had the only new reply in it.

Yes, there are.  I'm adding a feature right now to separate the two.  Hang on!

Cool.  That's much better.  I was having a hard time discerning between threads and stickied threads.   :-[

K Mark, I've added a separator bar between stickied and non-stickied topics.  I've also changed the "NEW!" and "new" buttons to be red as to stand out more.  I can't make new topics bold (haven't found a way yet), but nobody's perfect.   :uglystupid2:

The red is a huge improvement and so is the separator bar.  Thanks!   :)

I aim to please!  I don't want somebody not visiting this site because I was too lazy to improve or fix a problem!   ;D

Within a thread, would it be possible to make the new posts a little more obvious?  The date/time stamp is like 4 pt. font and very hard to read.  :o  Thanks,

Sadly, no, because the date/time stamp code size is also linked to everything else in the forum.  I'll keep looking into it though.
