Museum Submarine Discussion / USS Marlin
« on: August 13, 2008, 04:47:01 PM »
:-\ Freedom Park in Omaha is just about bankrupt.  Not Bankrupt because it is owned by the city.
But it is/was totally mismanaged.  What is needed is someone of the Caliber of John McMicheal to
go in there and talk the city into doing what Galveston did with Sea Wolf Park.  There was great
resistance in Galveston, but it was overcome.  With the right person at Freedom Park, it too can be
resurrected.   8)

The Becuna is mine because I served on her, and if the Redfin had gone to manitowoc, she would be in there also.
Becuna is a guppy conversion.

Museum Submarine Discussion / Re: Whats up with the other museums?
« on: April 10, 2008, 09:20:47 PM »
Tell me what other submarine museums your looking for.  I've visited them all.  I have contacts at all except the Marlin.
The Marlin museum "Freedom Park" is shut down.  A candidate for contact nonetheless is w0cap.
The problem with getting a reply from them is 1) they have 100's
of things on their plate and 2) They are not familiar with this site, and the get lots of requests.
They need someone familiar to them to offer an introduction.
The easiest contact is ed Walker on the Clamagore.
Next is John McMicheal on Cavalla.
We are getting a new contact for Silversides, until then it is Bob Moran.
The Torsk has many, but I lean toward Nick Yankanovich, then Bruce Boresecker.
I'm not sure if A to Z is still on the ..... in New Jersey.
That's from the top of my head. . .need to research more.
Didn't bother to mention boats I've seen posted hear.
I visit the Razorback, Blueback and Bowfin a couple times a year.
Need to get back to the Batfish ASAP because I have a photocopy of there inventory book on CD.

The Razorback is the latest submarine to be added to the museum subs inventory.
She has the distinction of having the most years in service among all the museum subs around the world.
Only one sub (still in commission) has longer service.  Can anyone name that sub?
