Title: SUBMARINEMUSEUMS.ORG tshirts?
Post by: Lance Dean on May 06, 2008, 10:32:47 PM
Would you guys be willing to buy these at a reasonable price, possibly as a way to raise a few dollars for your fav sub museum of choice?

Just an idea.  There is a friend half a mile down the road that screenprints tshirts.

Would it be light blue print on a gray t-shirt?

Make sure you hit refresh, I'm dabbling with the idea.

The graphics look kinda crappy cause I scaled everything down to show on here.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking, the same theme from the website/forum on the tshirt.  Very light gray shirt with the light aquamarine blue colored black stroked text.  Any suggestions are welcomed.  It's only an idea.

Move the Batfish to the top and make it in bold letters so everyone can see.

Looks good.  I personally would buy one.  Money is very tight here and I will need to work the budget as far as a gift shop item.

I really think this would be a better tool to help support the website.   Just a thought

Well, I'm fairly certain his minimum order is 15 shirts.  I had thought of 3 possibilities.

1)  Sell the shirts at cost to whoever wants one, like the ones for the Batfish currently.
2)  Sell the shirts at cost + a little extra that would be sent to whatever sub museum the buyer designates.
3)  Sell the shirts at cost + a little extra that would go towards the payment for this website/forum.

I figure they'd end up costing $8 to $12 each base cost.  Maybe $3 to $5 could be put in on top for #2/#3 option.  I dunno.  I guess it'd all depend upon the response.

I say if your going to add a little to the price of the shirts, put it to the site. The shirt is promoting the site and alot of the people on here are already directly involved with there choice museum. Plus, we need to keep this place up and running.

I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE T-SHIRT AND WOULD BUY ONE OR TWO BUT I THINK IT WILL NOT BE EASY GETTING THE MUSEUM GIFT SHOPS ON BOARD TO BUY 12 OR MORE.

Oh I never intended for the museum gift shops to sell these shirts, I was aiming more towards whoever wanted one that takes part in this website.

Thanks Chris.  I'm still working on it, and without the support of people like you and all the others who frequently log in here and contribute, it wouldn't still exist.

The museums that are run by the larger cities and organizations probably have a bit of an ego trip - "We don't need no stinkin' web site".  Torsk is obviously the exception to that rule.

It could be that or it might be a shortage of manpower...like the RAZORBACK.  As I mentioned on their section, they are interested, but have a staff of two and all their tours are guided.

We just need to keep reminding them (and emailing the link) so it's always in front of them.  Out of sight...out of mind.

Agreed.  And once again I really thank you guys again for inviting other people here.  I backed off for a little while because I didn't want people to think I was a spammer.   :idiot2:

Still haven't given up on this idea.  I've redone the back image to reflect the newest additions.  I'll possibly have up a poll soon for text color/background color choices.  I'd like to sell these for a very reasonable fee (base cost+shipping+$3 to $7 to go towards this website) as a way to not only promote this website, but all the submarine museum boats it covers.

I haven't inquired just yet as to what the cost per shirt would be, base.

Edited...I've played around with colors and now I'm rather liking the navy blue shirt with white text.  What say ye?  Better?

I thought so too, and I think the logo looks good against a navy blue background.  The white text looks good on navy blue too.

Will do.  I'm still waiting to hear back from the screenprinter.  Then I'll know a littler more about final design and cost.  I'll have to start a new thread to get an idea on how many of each size to order.

I haven't given up on this yet!  I've found a fellow USSVI member Gil Raynor who co-owns www.submarineshop.com with Ron Martini.  Gil makes all kinds of things for promotion.  I think we'll get something down soon.  The design is going to be somewhat simpler that what I've posted above, with only 2 colors and less decoration.

More soon!  I'll hopefully be asking "Who wants one" and "What's your size"!

Gil Raynor has sent a prototype of the tshirt to me.  I'll try to take a photo and post here.

If you guys are still interested, I figured this would be something great to look into once spring gets here.

Lance,

Would you be able to read all the boat names on the back?  Wouldn't it be too small to make out?

And a question:  How the heck did they get a submarine to Nebraska?

Gil Raynor sent me some very nice prototypes of these shirts.  I still hope to order some very soon.  I'll try to take a photo of them for opinions.

Because it is just a little tiny submarine!  More the question would be why did Nebraska think they needed a submarine.  However, or for what ever reason I'm glad that someone saved the Marlin.  With 1 torpedo tube it out guns the Albacore!  :coolsmiley:

That's really a better question, John.  Why DID Nebraska think they needed a submarine.  As for the Albacore, it looks as though it's sitting in a field abandoned.  Is that the case?  If it is, that's a travesty.  That boat opened a whole new era in submarine design. ???

The Albacore is in a park and nice facility - right off the water too. Interesting sub - loved it!

That's great, John.  The only picture I've seen it looks as if that the boat is just sitting out in a field with no means of going aboard.  I'm really glad to hear that it's being preserved well.  Have you been to it?
