Title: So who has looked in their chain locker?
Post by: Paul Farace on November 09, 2008, 11:40:14 PM
In case you did, what shape is your anchor chain in?  How much of it there?

Here is a shot of COD's chain locker...

Oh boy.  I think I'm going to leave that one alone.

But, good point Paul. Dex once wrote a piece called "Rust never sleeps".  Its no good to slap a coat of pretty paint over it and ignore the rust on the other side.  Multiple deck replacement projects, the current state of Batfish....these boats are slowly rusting away where we can't see or don't look at them.

Look here Mr. Tannen-FrikkenXmasTree!!!

Who are you to critique my chain locker!!!  You don't know the plans I have for this wonderful "secret garden" of chains!!!  Dust ruffles? How prissy! You don't know the real side of Martha Stewart... yes, the hardened, tough, and yes, BITCHY side borne of imprisonment!  When I am done with COD's chain locker it will scream DOMINATRIX!!!!  Black walls, silvery chains of seduction, you'll almost hear the crack of my whip! The screams of my slaves and the powerful release from the grip of corrosion!!!   Rust will lick my boots!

Maybe a warm mauve would be more sedate...

and remember, the width of the space is less than the space between your sets of torpedo tubes! Length about 6 feet... TIGHT!

Ich heisst "Herr Weinachtchsbaum!"

So in this Cleveland chain locker, links will be coated in leather with gag balls in the gaps. Very "Pulp Fiction."

Hey, is this a PG-rated board?

But if the deck was replaced and there was no rust to fight...how would I spend my Saturdays?   :o

I hope you never need to use your "bower" cause me thinks your chain will part.  :P

A good sand blasting and a LOT of NDI (Non Destructive Inpection) may ease the pain of IF you ever have to use your chain again although it won't ease the pain of your check book for all of the work that would be required

I will have an easy time with the Drum's chain locker. The sidies are mostly gone so I won't have to sand plast, just weld in new sides and because the bottom is gone I think I will plant a tree under it and let it grow up thru the deck so we can have shade topside. As to the chain we only have about 20 links left, the rest are lining the side of the entrance road.

Gee Wallie,,,,
If I listen to you all It sounds like the Batfish is about to fall apart where we stand.  At least we seill have an ass end..... :2funny:

Seriously.  We look worse then we are.  We do not have much of our chain left.  the Chain locker is showing some were too,  But all and all she has faired very well over the last 35 years.    Looking for some big things to come in the future.
