My Facebook page features a story about submarine memorials/museums across the country. ANY ONE -- If you want, feel free to use this for marketing purposes.  :-*

She is more than just a collection of metal. Her steel is permeated with the stories she tells of the terrors and joys of the men – her sons – who’d worked and lived aboard. The majority of the time, this lady and her crew of the Dolphin Brotherhood were submerged beneath oceans on dangerous hide-and-seek missions.

“She” is one of 25 Submarine Memorials/Museums across the country open to visitors to go down inside and explore. From their top decks to within hulls, these ladi... (see more)

Museum Submarine Discussion / Inland Journeys, Sub Memorials
« on: January 29, 2012, 07:11:46 PM »
Got to thinking...Didn't USS Requin travel the longest distance inland to become a sub memorial?

What distances did other inland memorials travel and how?

Read earlier today about Requin's rusty hull in need of a costly "face lift." Reminded me of a story I wrote about her that was published in a 2011 book by the Military Writers Society of America: USS Requin -- A Lady's Amazing Journey.

Give some thought to "cookie cuttering" my story for other sub memorials/museums; submit to area newspapers, magazines. Here 'tis....
might have to cut, paste into browser.

Museum Submarine Discussion / USS Carbonero Engine Telegraph
« on: November 29, 2009, 10:39:52 PM »

Ran across thie below the other day while doing submarine cookbook research. E-mailed it to O'Dwyer, USS Carbonero submariner group. He says it's too heavy to take back and forth to Carbonero reunions, that he believes it was offered on ebay about a month ago. Found the info on below web site. (spelling errors not mine)

Posted November 22, 2009 |  Old Uss Navy Submarine Uss Carbonero Engine Telegraph.  It was launched in 1944, decommissioned in 1970, and sunk in 1975. I think this was original to 1944, btu i don’t know for sure- it could have been from a later re-fitting.It is 12 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 10, and really heavy! I also don’t know if it would owrk or not. It was identified by the last owner on the side- from an estate collection. If you have any questions, pelase ask. Note for the very few you know who you are.
