Title: School of the Boat for 22 July 08
Post by: Darrin on July 22, 2008, 05:41:22 PM
what is the 5th tank group???  and why is it important to know the answer to that as a crewmember or a volunteer??  The second part to that  there is no wrong answer because this is just an informative school of the boat and not going to sea school of the boat.

I wont answer this by checking first - but should be Sanitary Tank - at my age I should not stray far from a head.

Sanitary Tank sounds good to me too, but I haven't looked in the book yet.

And Darrin, I really, really appreciate you coming up with these School of the Boat posts!   :smitten:

Well I'm not sure which you are referring to because there are a lot of additional tanks.  Normal fuel oil, collecting and expansion, clean fuel oil, lub oil, fresh water, battery water, sanitary, and a host of other miscellaneous tanks for hydraulic and vent, reserve hydraulic, mineral oil, my favorite torpedo alcohol, torpedo oil and compressor oil.

Are you referring to fresh water tanks? Seems most logical. Or engine oil sump tanks?

Is it the negative tank?  Boats that are afloat don't want water filling in that puppy or it will be the last dive for sure.

Negative tank is in one of the four main tank groups. He's looking for something else, but what? :crazy2:

JT you are correct about the FO tanks being as to what I am looking for.. reason behind it is there are a couple of our boats that still run their diesels and I know Torsk is trying to get hers back to running condition once more and the cost of oil these days is outragous so it is always good to know how much FO,LO and others you have onboard your boat at all times because IF you don't need it you can get rid of it or if you need it start saving now
