We're looking at October 4th as a warm up to the big day on October 18th.
I have a few who have told me they'll be there...we can use more.
On the 18th, Bradley (aka Shipwreck) is planning a big event...so come out and help and I think there will be food. Would like an RSVP on this if possible.
Bradley/Rick - speaking of food, have either of you contact Matt about the Foundation paying for it?

Thanks guys. Looks like I wil hav3 10 of the Muskogee Swat team here. If I have any problems, it looks like they will be rectified easily. I am spending the night on the boat friday. come in any time. There will already be boy scouts and a small contingent of sea cadets. We will have lunch provided by the foundation and Loves bottleing. It will be delivered to the museum at 1200 by our freinds at charlies chicken. I need everyone to check in at the new awning for assignments. Email to follow.
I am excited. I hope to see some new deck go down..

Lance, Come on down. I will make room. I still have a few... Hundred bolts the need to be turned on the boat. If not that, there are 2 torpedoes that need to be preped and loaded. ;D

I will not be able to make it, because I was just there this past weekend, otherwise I would have been there. I will be there around Thanksgiving though, probably the friday after thanksgiving.

I and one or possibly four other BLHA guys will be there this weekend to help out. We have a couple of projects going on and can probably lend a hand with the deck. We'll be reinstalling the next set of Officer's Row panels and removing the final set for cleaning, pulling a couple of items from the Cold Stores Locker for repair, working on a few things in the galley, and finishing a couple of other projects.

You should have at least two from the BLHA there to help out. Do with them as you wish.
Right now, I think it'll be Tim Katzung and Roger Hudgins, Mark Sarsfield said something about the work day but I don't remember if it was an "I'm coming" or a "can't make it".

I'll be there. I got my kitchen pass. ;) It will be nice to focus on deck laying with so much of the old stuff already removed and cleaned up.

I know it's right after Christmas...but the stores will be crowded with all those people returning gifts and bargain hunters...so avoid all that and come out on Saturday, Dec. 27th at 9 AM and let's get some more deck put down.

Actually I do want to come out, but I'll be in K.C. from the 24th through the 28th with my parents and brother.
What weekend are you looking at for the Jan. time frame? It will be nice to have a good portion of the bow down by the time that the inspectors come out.

Right now the weather looks to be 48 and sunny for the 27th.
My plan is to put more deck down, Rick wants us to focus on the starboard side working aft around the bridge.
We are hitting a slow point now as we have to figure out how to join two boards thru one bolt hole. I have to pieces of wood at home and will come up with something (i.e. template) to speed it up.
Otherwise, it will be just continuing on using a method we developed for consistency.

Well - last Saturday rained us out but we did get to organize the storage area somewhat.
Anyway, next scheduled work days (weather permitting) will be:
Saturday, Jan. 3rd from 9AM to ?
Saturday, Jan. 10th from 9AM to ?
Saturday, Jan. 24th from 9AM to ?
If for some reason the weather cancels and we can't make it down, I'll post it here by 8 AM and I'll send out an email by 8 AM also.
Otherwise, let's get out there and get some more deck put down.

A suggestion for joining your boards. A scarf joint, a diagonal cut where the board with the bolt overlaps the other and though not historically correct use epoxy glue.

Well it was a nice, but windy day yesterday.
My wife, Brandt, Tim and I showed up.
Brandt spent most of his time there pulling bolts that were left in place. Tim and I prepped most of the supports aft of the sail. We also got a section of smaller boards put in.
Unfortunately, we discovered that about 1/2 way down the deck, the board spacing switches from 3/4" to 1/2", so we had to abandon that until I can make a 1/2" spacer set. But we did get several boards put in just forward of the A/C units.
My wife and I will be there on the 10th, I think Tim is coming again.
Who else is coming?

I remember you saying that the next two work weekends are Feb. 7th and Feb. 21st. Is this correct? I thought that our living histiory event weekend was the 13th through the 15th, but Correy reminded us that it's the 20th through 22nd. Hopefully, we can get enough deck laid down on the 7th to get the event weekend people traffic away from the AC units. See you on the 7th.

4. Deck starboard, aft of sail...trying to get the walkway routed starboard so we can finish pulling deck...about the time summer and the wasps show up.

I actually like working on her. So, it's not problem for me.
Speaking of work, Rick, did Correy run past you my idea for boosting sound to the internal speakers in the aft section of the boat? It really is a safety issue not having audible sound aft of the crew's wash room with so many people aboard on event weekends.

I do not mean to take up your topic, but i do not see starting another of this breif upday....
we faired the Winter Ice storm very well. we have a minimal amount of down tree limbs and the parking lot looked like a Ice Skating rink. but it is slowly tuning into water. I hope everyone else faired as well. See you all at the next work day.

2 bundles or decking have been delivered to the after deck. We will need to sort them out, but this is not a big deal. More will be delivered on Saturday.

I wish I could be there once again Mark, but architecture studio requires alot of time, not only do I have to build a 3-d model but then I have to do a 3-d drawing of it, and all the techincal drawings for it, so I have alot to do this weekend. Sorry, I really wish I could be there.

Saturday, March 7th is our Annual Spring Work Day.
Lots to do, including deck work. I'll be there by 9 AM (don't have to wait for the wife to get ready this time as she won't be there).
We got a lot done last Saturday and need to post photos...thanks to Tim, Roger and Mark S. for the help.
So, please plan to come out on the 7th.
As far as I know - lunch will be provided by the Foundation, so we need an RSVP please.

Well, once again school calls, I have to design a tower and then build it over the next three weeks so I cant make it this weekend. However depending on what happens I might be spending alot of time at the Batfish over my spring break.

The promise of a free meal doesn't seem to have much pull anymore. Last year out spring work day had over 60 people. So far this year I have about five...hopefully Rick has heard from others I haven't.

I might be able to make it actually, it depend on what my professor wants done over the weekend. If I can com I will probably just show up the day of, but dont get your hopes up, because they can cram alot into the weekends for us, :buck2:

The weather was OK - no rain, warm but very windy. We got a lot done with only 7 showing up for our Annual Work Day.
My hats off to Brandt, Mark S., Roger, Tim & Kat and Travis for coming out. A far cry from last year where we had 60+ show up. We even got some newspaper time last year. I don't know what happened this year...Rick and I got the word out, but I guess everyone else was busy.

FYI - May 2nd is our 10th Annual Volunteer Workday where we get the park ready for the upcoming reunion. I need everyone and anyone claiming to be a Batfish Volunter to man-up and come out on the 2nd. We have a lot to do and only a few hands that show up. Show some respect for our Batfish Veterans and come out. I'm pretty sure lunch will be provided (am checking on that now) so will need a head count.

How many boards did you get to put down on Saturday?

We (Tim, Roger, Bradley Baker and I) got down about 17 boards and completed the area by the A/C units (minus a few boards because Rick is having an electrician come out and move the power box...so we had to leave some room - will finish on the 2nd).
We also finished a smaller section of 1/2 length boards a bit forward of that. I promise to post some photos when I get home tonight.
Next time, we plan to prep, pull bolts and start putting deck down aft of where we've been working. the plans are to make a walk-way on the starboard side from where they come on the boat to where we've got it completed. Then we'll hopefully have the Guard guys come out again and kick @$$ on the old deck that remains.
so I'll make my plug now...who is coming on the 2nd? Free Lunch (I've heard it's BBQ). And Lance - No excuses...I expect you to be there.

Makes sense to keep continuing aft. First impressions count and it will be nice to have visitors see a nice, new deck when they first come aboard.

Rain, Rain, Rain.
Tim and Bradley worked on getting a wall up in Ricks office to secure artifacts.
Ed and I did get many bolts pulled from the supports until the weather just too bad to be out in it.
Brandt worked in the FTR cleaning up the previously pulled bolts.
Tim's wife and my wife worked the front counter, cleaned and organized.
Rick sat around and then bought us Pizza :o
Really wish it would stop raining...what's it been...2 weeks straight?

Ahh man, the weekend after I start school. It seems like I always am busiest around the workdays, that sucks.

I can manage 7 a.m. We'll have to break for lunch a little earlier - no later than 11. Probably should quit by 1.

7 am works for me...quitting at 1 will be fine. with a quick 30 min. lunch around 11...we should get in the usual amount of time.

Hopefully, the publicity train keeps rolling. If Mr. Premeaux is successful in his initial fund-raising, the boat should be back in the news by late Sept.
My main concern with sand blasting is that we inspect every little component on the exterior to see if it can handle the blasting media or if it should be protected and later stripped by other means.

It's been about 4 months since our last deck work day...so please, if you can make it, please set aside this day to come out and help us get a big chunk of the deck taken care of.
So...who wants to come out? Maybe Rick will buy lunch for us!

Our last work day was before Thanksgiving. I've tried to schedule some days but weather has cancelled a few, lack of bodies/holidays has cancelled a few, previously scheduled events has cancelled one.
We look to be good to go for March 6th (unless the weather cancels). However, I'm coming and will do something inside if I have to.

Lord knows there's plenty to do on both sides of the hull.
I ran an idea by Rick about maybe putting a small, electric furnace in the lower aft battery well. There is an old ventilation tube that sticks up through the floor in the port, forward corner of the crew's berthing area - used to blow area down into the battery well. Just blow the air up through the tube and then have the blower recirculate the warm air through the boat. The thermostat in the galley just needs to be wired to the furnace. The real trick is increasing power to both the boat and the utility pole behind the museum.
