Title: AWESOME poster from Submarine Memorabilia!!
Post by: Lance Dean on September 13, 2008, 10:51:03 PM
Well guys, I finally got around to ordering the "Submarine Evolution 1900-2003" poster from Submarine Memorabilia.  That's John Clear's store at http://www.usssealion.com which is widely known to sell the WWII submarine war patrol reports on disc.  Mark Allen "MWALLEN" ordered the set of those not too long ago.

Anyway, this poster is just awesome, a MUST for anyone trying to keep up with submarines throughout history.  It is 33" long and 23" high.  We drove to Jackson today to do some shopping and we stopped by Hobby Lobby (we love that store) and believe it or not their poster frames were 50% off today!!  I got a nice 36" long 24" high poster frame for only $10.  I used the paper that came inside the frame as a matte - just flipped it over to the blank side.  I'm very pleased with the results.

This poster lists every submarine ever made up until 2003, every class up until 2003, and gives a silhouette TO SCALE so you can compare the sizes of each class.  It gives active duty dates and fates as well.  See the photos I'm attaching.

USS Albacore has one of these hanging in crew's mess.  People stop and look at it on their way through.  It's amusing (for brief visit I had) to stand there and listen to the "dads" that think they know everyone explaining the pictures.  LOL

The Batfish did have one of those hanging in the museum somewhere, but it got moved due to the very nice remodeling.

Lance: its good to know im not the only one who still likes GI-JOE although I like the one sixth (12 inch) scale figures.

Tom, your poster is slightly different from mine.  Yours is 1900 to 2000 and has different logos in the bottom right corner.  Where'd you get it?

I felt bad and cleaned up my desk.

Yo Joe!

We currently have 3 of these.  1900-00,01, and 03.   I would like an updated one.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Interesting.  I'll ask around for you, but as far as I know the 2003 is the latest one available.

I heard at the AIMM museum in North Little Rock, Ar that there is a new poster in production and should be out later this year.

Just to clear up any confusion.

We (AIMM) get our posters from BAE, the defense contractor.  They give these posters away at various events (Sea/Air/Space Expo, US Naval Institute Events, NSL events etc.)  My contact works at BAE and gave me a bundle of them in 2006 after the convention season ended.  These were the 2005 edition, running through USS New Mexico (SSN-779) and showing the USSVI, NSL, and USSVWWII logos.

I have asked for more posters and they were promised to me some time ago, but have not arrived.

I believe there is an upcoming NSL event in DC, so I suspect my supply won't arrive until after that event.

When I e-mailed my contact he said there were new ones available.
