Title: USS COD fires her 5-inch deck gun
Post by: Paul Farace on July 11, 2009, 11:29:00 PM
Each year, on or near July 8-11, we celebrate the only international sub-to-sub rescue in history with a reenactment of the transfer of the crew of the Dutch sub O-19 aboard COD. Yea, four guys in rubber boats, not unlike the real thing 64 years ago. Once the Dutch flag is transferred aboard and then run up the flag pole, we fire COD's 5-inch gun to salute the submariners of both nations, followed by a picnic (sub sandwiches and pizza, what could be better?).   Color shot is today. BW shot is the real deal in 1945.
