Finally someone from the USS Albacore has shown up to be apart of this bbs and to hopefully help out others whom are trying to restore their boats. On a different note, I guess this means that I have to join LIB now that he has shown up here..

Damn you bet me too it. John Was up there in Maine hibernating with all this cold, ice and snow. But I got him to join today.
Now stand back, not only do you have a houseful of torpedomen, but now you have two Portuguese guys to contend with in the house.

Ya know Chief, that is a very weak ping... BUT knowing that you can't work on the steam kettle anymore and that being a RM is the next best thing I will leave you alone.. How much money did the Navy spend on you to be a nukie poo only for you to cross train to RM for free???

So where is John B. anyway. Does he just lurk? I know he isn't too peripatetic or ubiquitous most of the time, so maybe he is just being his usual diffident self. LOL

Ya know Bill, I am starting to believe that he is lurking like some others.. He has posted here a couple of times and that is about it, I need some TM help for the folks on Batfish tryin to bring weapons back onboard for the first time in many years and there options are limited as to what they can do. Please feel free to jump in and give us some direction, motivation and purpose where ya can.

Darrin, you got to remember, I am a nuc ELT. Now I did play with torpedos on the Scorpion, but sure our loading system was much differnet. I do know though that you want the screw towards the back and shut the door before shooting. That's about the sum of my knowledge. LOL Maybe some of the guys on the Cavalla can help out. They loaded one not too many months ago and I watch part of it with their webcam.

What if you are in the After Torpedo Room Bill - the screw points forward and the pointing thing points aft. At least you shut the door! LOL :crazy2:

Gee John, I told you I was a nuc ELT. What's an aft torpedo Room? LOL Hey that reminds me, wasn't there some boat that had torpedos come out the middle of the boat. Maybe some novel I read.

Never heard of any tubes coming out of the middle. Don't think it would be practical. But I'm going to do some research on this one Bill.

Well surface craft do have tubes angles off the bow and can be set back towards midships. I'll keep researching to see what I can find. It would have to be a foreign design I think.

John, how about the Permit Class. From what I remember they had sonar in the bow and had their 4 torpedo tubes aft towards the middle of the ship. Can't remember how it looked, I assum it was a regular torpedo room with tubes slightly angled?

It seems that the Permit-class boats did have 4 tubes midships. They carried SUBROC anti-submarine missiles and Mk 48 torpedos. But I cannot find anything on how they were installed. I assume they were installed horizontally.
Of course the Permit-class was originally the Thresher-class. But the name of the class was changed to the second boat built after the Thresher sunk.

Correct and the Thresher had the same layout. The last few ships in that class were longer, I thiink, but don't know about wider. I'll ask Bob Miller. He was on the Thresher.
