Museum Submarine Discussion / MK 37 Torpedoes for Museum Boats Available
« on: December 18, 2012, 01:12:19 AM »
Dennis Gilbert here, I am assisting a benefactor in Nevada that has some 10-12 Mk 37 torpedoes, which he would like to go to Museum Boats for display.Do to his overload in other projects, I have volunteered to find out the interest and desires in obtaining these torpedoes, Most are in shipping cans and in great shape, some are the Blue ones and some of the green do not have heads! They would have to be picked up in Nevada or shipped from there, they are approx 13 feet long and weigh about 2000 # as they are.I would like for all the Museum Boats to reply if they are interested or not, this way I will know all the boats were aware of the torpedoes. If you need more info i can be reached at 985-863-3838 at any reasonable hour.
We might be able to arrange to have the torpedoes transported to a central Boat and each boat share costs, they could then be picked up much closer and transported in a trailer.( I hauled 3 MK 45 from Nevada to Batfish on a 16 foot car hauling trailer!)
thanks,
Dennis Gilbert

USS Batfish (SS-310) / Re: set your restoration date
« on: May 29, 2008, 07:27:40 AM »
I vote for the second decommission , If we are trying to be authentic this will be the only restoration that can be authentic due to the permanent apperance changes made to her, such as to the bridge  and sail area. I would like to see the deck gun replaced. Although this would not be authentic to this configeration.
