Darrin I will need your current email address - mine is still good either Hotmail or gmail works

Darrin asked me if I wanted to do some School of the Boat stuff again.  I'm checking with him on some stuff I just did - maybe we'll posting something soon.  Anyone up for going back to school? :coolsmiley:

It's been a long time (or so it seems), but I am still kicking and recovering well.  So I almost feel like a new member.

My operation went good.  Unfortunately I ended up spending 14 days in the hospital because of complications.  Right now I have OK days and not so OK days.  I have a real problem getting any sleep.  As such I usually am up by 0330 or so every night.  I guess that should give me some time to research for the School of the Boat.

Hopefully I can get some time in front of the PC.  Right now it is still hard to just for any length of time let alone sit in front of the computer.

Bingo!  As a skinny kid I was often the one that went into tubes to check the tripping latch.

School of the Boat / School of the Boat - mystery part 18 March 2010

Just a quick queston.  What is this?  Sorry for the quality - but I hope you can make it out.  (Hint it is a tool)

USSVI National Commander, Pat Householder, set up the start of what we hope will be a nice virtual on-line submarine museum on Facebook.

http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/USSVI-Virtual-Museum/366223061298?ref=ss

For those with Facebook accounts why not become a fan.  I think they may be still working on getting this set up right, but they did post a few pictures.  This was another idea batted around on LIB's BBS, and national seems to have run with the idea.

As with anything such as this it will take a long time and a big effort to get a lot of information added.  I'm sure that if you wanted some pictures of your boats you can send them to me and I will get them posted there - so far I don't think the page was set up to allow others to post pictures - only the admin.  Hum!

We are starting to see a lot more Submarine and Submariner presence on Facebook, which is good.  I'd rather look at pictures of submarines than say Megan Fox (OK, before Darrin rubs me - not quite true)! LOL

But seriously every time we can get a picture posted and people looking at them - then maybe these fans will want to see the real deal in person.

Being one of those guys over at LIB - what Bill wants or is looking for is a long-range plan that will help LIB support various projects.  While there is no way we can guarantee big bucks – we think it is important to have a plan that allows us to give what support we can, and to find ways to increase that support.  Lance has been over there chatting about this subject too.  It has become one of the longest single topic threads I’ve seen there – so LIB members are very serious in finding ways we can help.
The two local museum boats around me get very little discussion here.  Ling gets the most and for the last couple of years that chatter was not promising.  Now it seems like there may be life left for the old girl and she will be staying (close).
So we’d like to hear thoughts from all of you.

Little know is the fact that Facebook limits the number of groups a person can join to 500 (I think is the number, because I hit it once), so fan pages are always much better - easier for people to join lots of these - just like a friend

Running parallel to increase current - gives more torquing power, more turns, if you do this you will decrease the ampere-hour rating of the battery, meaning it aint going to last too long.

from the manual:
Various combinations of armatures in series or in parallel, including the coupling of all four motors in series for dead slow operation, may be obtained, for either surface or submerged operation, through the main control cubicle.

For surface operation, motor speed control is accomplished by controlling the generator speed and shunt field, thus varying the voltage supplied. When submerged, speed is controlled by varying the motor shunt field or by connecting the motors in different combinations of series and parallel. Reverse operation is accomplished by reversing the direction of the flow of current in the motor armature circuit.

For surface operation, using the various combinations of armatures and taking power from the main generators, the motors develop from 20 hp to 2700 hp per propeller shaft at speeds ranging from approximately 67 rpm to 282 rpm.
For submerged operation, using various combinations of armatures and taking power from the batteries, the motors develop power ranging from 30 hp to 1719 hp per propeller shaft and give a speed range from 38 rpm to 219 rpm.

Is this what you need - I just copied and pasted Lance's list into Excel and moved the city and state to the left.  This can be copied and pasted as a table into word with no problem
