Title: A Mark 48, from lawn ornament to beautiful display...
Post by: Paul Farace on February 26, 2009, 12:51:53 AM
This fish was a sinker that was dredged up from the bottom and placed on display for years in front of the now leveled Cleveland Naval Reserve Center. Each year it got a new coat of paint until it was nolonger a 21 inch fish, but more like a 22 inch torpedo.

When the city widened the sidewalks, we were asked to take custody of the fish.  We arranged to have it refurbished by the factory the built them for the Navy. They added the sectional roller stand.

The only thing missing on the weapon is the TMD (Torpedo Mounted Dispenser) and that fits on the exhaust nozzle and a submarine hull wrapped around it lovingly

We also have a Mk 45 on the Torsk but it just isn't the same thing ;)

While the Mk 48 doesn't have the capabilities to make things glow in the dark it does have the ability to blow ships in HALF and not break a sweat :2funny:
