Title: USS COD Recruits Diving Officers
Post by: Paul Farace on February 24, 2009, 12:35:15 AM

USS COD crew participated in a weekend community festival in a Cleveland suburb. Our participation in the event for families was decidedly non-electronic (low-tech? Maybe, maybe not)... three Cartesian diving simulators.  The kids put down their IPods and Gameboys and took up our challenge to "dive a sub to periscope depth."  Who knew you could have this much fun (and learn a bit about bouyancy) with an empty pop bottle, some water, and an eyedropper?  This kid was among the best and understood the concept of controlled dives!  As in bouncing off the bottom is not an option for subs!

The picture below shows the COD display... the depthcharge and Mk. 43 torpedo were getting cabin fever in Building 13 and needed to get out for a morning.

That my friend earned you another BZ for your unique teaching techniques, great job and I wish that more people would do that in the schools.

Interesting story - nice idea of getting out into the community too.

BTW - I do believe that I will be up your way Paul - sometime around July 17-18-19?  I got suckered into a "family" reunion, high school reunion only if I could go play on the Cod!  Not sure of the real dates or details.  All this takes place around Carrollton and Akron area.
