Email me or send me a PM... I live near the Naval Academy and can get into the library there to see if they have that document. conversely, I can call over there to check before going there..

Yes Foxtrot B-39 was sent to San Diego and co-located with the Aircraft Carrier  Saratoga which is still US Navy waiting final approval as a Museum ship.  The 2nd Soviet sub B143 located in Rhode Island suffered a far worse fate and sank at her moorings during a storm in 2007.  I understand salvage is still underway  and the cause is still not known.  HNSA has photos, photos of salvage operations are at juliet484.org

From what I recall, the USN will be conducting salvage ops on the Providence boat sometime later this year..

They've rigged the forward 3 inch and 20 mm guns on the SS JOHN W BROWN to fire propane/oxygen mix. All are activated by a spark plug...

Jim,

I assume you've talked to Ron Martini already?  I believe he served on the Catfish.

Thanks for joining up by the way.  I'm looking forward to your further input on things.

Yup...already in touch with him...and yes, he did qual on CATFISH

In addition to redoing my book on REQUIN, I'm currently in the initial stages of researching the USS CATFISH (SS-339)/ARA SANTA FE (S-21)...

Here at the USSVI Blueback base we have a retired HMC who qualified on the Catfish in 1960.  Let me know if you want me to get you in touch with him.

Dave

Send him my way... thanks...

REQUIN had three (maybe four) different crew patches..

the first was done by Walt Disney studios, the second by a guy who was in REQUIN's first radar-picket/MIGRAINE crew, and the third by a gentleman named Bob "Dex" Armstrong.

Click on the link to see the different versions-

I have a vet here that attends post 241 that served on the Catfish.  I would be happy to try and get you in contact with him if you would like.

That would be great... email me at ssr481@verizon.net. I've got a lot of material from the Argentinian side of things... especially in 1982.. haven't had a chance to really get into the CATFISH side...

Other than following me home to Pittsburgh, REQUIN is the sole survivor of the 10 fleet boats converted to SSR. Her stern room, cleared of all the torpedo tube equipment in 1947-48, was used as berthing when radar pickets went out of commission..
