I found a link to a similar medal called the "United Spanish War Veterans Medal" here... http://www.spanamwar.com/medalsUSWV.htm.  Only thing that seems to be different is the medal hanging from the ribbon.  This medal seems to be for the Philippine Campaign.  Yours is obviously for Cuba.
Supposedly a lot of these were made, since 325,000 troops served in the war.  So, not sure how much you'd get for it.

Mark S

Thanks.  I am not so much looking to sell.  It is a museum piece right now and fits into what we do.  I was just having problems getting a positive ID...

FYI - non members can't see the images.  you'll need to download the image to your PC and then send that image, or have Rick send the image to you.

Lance - is there an option to allow non-members to see images???

I got them the image. I just saved it to my PC and uploaded it to photobucket. This is what I was told.
It is an American campain medal for the Spanish War. This particular medal was for two tours of duty, hence the oak leaves but if you look one is missing.

Where it says Phillipines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico is just where the combat areas were I guess. Hope this helps out for now. I will try to see if there is anymore info available on it.

I believe there is...however, how things are right now helps cut down on bandwidth and encourages people to log in instead of lurking.  :)  I'll look into the option if I can find it.

One more for you all.  This is a new item that came in with a very large collection belonting to a spec forces fellow.   We cannot identify this service or country of origin.   I know that the veterain served in both navy and Army starting in WWII and finishing just after Viet Nam.

Any ideas from you folks...

For some reason I want to say it is Italian but, I doubt that is correct.

Look inside all of the pockets for a tag or stamps.  The clamores are usually a U.S. emblem.  The stars look like they might be Chinese, Taiwanese, or another Asian country near the 'Nam.  The uniform has a Wehrmacht feel to it.  A lot of countries mimicked the German Wehrmacht uniform and helmet designs in the 30's, including the pre-commie Chinese army.  I've seen photos of Chinese soldiers that look like they are in German uniforms, but they're fighting the Japanese.

The red backing on the collars lean toward a communist country.  The jacket also looks like a synthetic blend - most WWII uniforms were either cotton or wool.  So, it may be a 50's or 60's era Chinese uniform when polyester was all the rage.

I agree, it does look German, but it also looks like Italian. The only thing off is the red where the Italian one is black and white.

It could be Russian hence the red.....but I will keep igging for sure.

I'm glad I don't have to wear that every day.

Another possibility is eastern bloc.  It might be Romanian, Hungarian, Bazooka-stan, etc.

There are not tags on this thing and is is some type of polyester.  This guy did spend a lot of time in Viet Nam.  My suspision is either Chinese, Vienamese, or some other east Asian country....

I read somewhere that Taiwan used to have German-style uniforms.  Not sure if they still do or not.  The star definitely looks Asian to me.

Since the guy was in Vietnam, they too were part of the Eastern Bloc. It is possible that when East Germany was taken the found uniforms and sent them south. The first Vietnam battles were in 1955 (I think) against the French.

And Mark....please....they never used Bazooka's in the Eastern Bloc....It's the RPG7. lol Just joking with ya.  ;D

War for independence in 'Nam started in May 1946.  They teamed up with the Chi-Coms, because the U.S. and other European countries didn't want to fight against France.  France was about the only country after WWII to keep its colonies and they had a lot of uprisings in different locations.  I always found that ironic, since they were occupied by the Nazis for 4 1/2 years.  You'd think that they'd want to give others some freedom after they became free, again.

Anyway, that doesn't look like an NVA uniform from any time period.

come on now.  This is France we are talking about.  The ones that come crying to the allies everytime their back side in in the grinder then tell us no when we need some help like use their air space for a minor military action.

You would think that it would be impossible to be incompetent and arrogant at the same time, but they have managed to pull it off multiple times.

That is a 10-4.   I am trying to find someone with a serious antiquities knowledge that would be willing to evaluate it for us.   As with everything, money is an issue.....
