ALCON:

For those whom have been following the story of her refloating after all of these years and then the entrance of water into the people tank, her crew led by one of our own CTWilley has got the leaks stopped and she is now currently resting on the edge of the bowl and from all reports is safe and dry inside.

One thing that helped them out was this page created by our host Lance Dean and a small rag tag group of Vets who taught the "School of the Boat" if you weren't here at the time for that please review it because there is a lot of information in there

Now for the plans to move her?? That is in the works right now and if the crew and the museum can keep up this momentum it will be as good if not better then it was before.

She is still flooded and setting in the mud from what I have seen, sadly I think I maybe too late to save her now due to how long she has been flooded :-[ :-[ :-[

I think that the Ling is sadly done, she still has water in her since she was flooded so I don't see her being saved now

Sadly, I need to report that the USS Ling has been flooded and is now setting on the bottom after vandals got onboard :'(

I truly wish that I had better news however her time is now pretty much over other then the memories unless someone steps in with a big checkbook to save her

IF anyone is still reading this thread after nearly 10 years I hate to say it but most of the ships if not all of them are gone now and the days of doing a strip ship are long over

Museum Submarine Discussion / Re: welding equipment
« on: January 20, 2018, 02:50:41 AM »
Rich,

I honestly have no idea what kind of welding equipment that they carried and honestly I can't remember what we carried on the USS Honolulu SSN 718 from '91-'94 when I was onboard her.

Museum Submarine Discussion / Re: block and tackle on the WW II boats
« on: January 20, 2018, 02:30:28 AM »
Rich,

I am pretty sure that the Torsk doesn't have her original block and tackle onboard anymore, they may however have a better copy of the drawing that you posted the link for.

Honestly I don't have any idea how much they are onboard her anymore, you may want to post over on the bbs and see if they can help out. www.usstorsk.org

It is a possible track for us next year however due to the storm and a possible new aircraft to us, we haven't gotten that far yet. Please check out our fb page vintageaviationmusem and you can find me there

Rich,

I think that Larry Torsk Doc has those same two documents, with everything that is going on here in Florida I am a bit busy right now and haven't been able to call him. We are going to ride out the storm here in North Central Florida.
