Title: Dry Dock Pix

Our Pier Manager, Jim Reeb, took Frank Morgan and myself into the dry dock today to do a photo survey of the hull. I've posted 30+ pix over on Facebook, but here are a few from today's visit.

That's me standing by the sonar dome  :)

Lance - it was just amazing to be able to walk around and underneath the old girl. To see up close the parts of the boat I have waited 14 years to see!

Definately a once in a lifetime (or two) experience!

Awww man I wanna do that!! But, it doesn't look like Cobia is going to dry dock.  :-[ We had a great meeting with the Veolia Company last week and they want to develope a long term relationship with us for on going maintenance on Cobia. While this is a great thing it means I won't be able to see Cobia out of the water. Your lucky Gil!

Hey Karen! Glad to hear you've got that long term relationship with Veolia in the works. It certainly does mean a lot for Cobia!

Next time I am in the dock, I'll give Torsk a pat just for you!

Nice pictures.  She looks like she's still in good shape with minor pitting.

Thanks Mark. She's got a few areas that need work. A couple of leaks around blanking plates. The crew's finished sandblasting today. When I was in the dock this afternoon they were spraying primer up between the shafts.

The man in the white hard hat is Chuck Weaver EM2. He served on Torsk in 64-65, and is an active Torsk volunteer. It was a special thrill for him to see his qual boat out of the water!

And yes Karen - I gave her that pat for you, right on the sonar dome!  ;)

 :2funny: Thanks Gil! I hope you at least have warmer weather there too! I've been itching to get on the boat the last two days, but we've had sub zero temps! So not worth it!

Mid day temps in the 40's, not so bad compared to what you guys are dealing with!

Still colder than I would like, tho!

I am a noob at all this..sorry but shouldnt her hull be black or was the color changed

The red is the primer coat. The final coat will go on after the welding/steel repair is done.

A few shots from today in the dry dock. The Torsk Volunteers spent time in the After Torpedo Room moving a MK45 torpedo and skid to gain access to Variable Fuel Oil tank 7, in order to open it for Monday's tank inspections. Most of the tank manhole covers are off topside as well. A good day aboard, even if it was windy!

She looks good with the new primer coat.  So, based on the latest assessment, how many more years will she be in the water?

Both of these National treasures look great in dock! (TORSK AND CONNIE)... Karen, I will have to dig out my video of COBIA in dock from back in 96. It might help!
