Periscopes on Pampanito
« on: October 16, 2013, 04:11:59 PM »
FYI, periscopes were raised hydraulically on Pampanito this morning.  See photos at the end of:
http://maritime.org/pres/hydr/index.htm

We have not been able to run these properly for quite a while because of the need for 1,800 lb air in the accumulator.  We now have an aux pump that does not need the accumulator.  The original system is still intact and can be operated when high pressure air is available.

We will want all the hydraulics (dive planes, torpedo tubes,  scopes) working again for our next drydocking.  We are working on raising the roughly $500K needed.  See:

Outstanding job Rich, a huge BZ to you and your crew. Thank you for sharing how you and your crew did this, maybe more boats can replicate what you all have done.
