Donations?
« on: May 29, 2008, 01:37:13 PM »
Well guys, we have an offer for this website to join as an Associate member to the HNSA.  The thing is Associate membership is $150 per year.  I'm not sure if I want to get into that sort of annual commitment on top of the other annual costs this site demands already.

I think the HNSA is a great organization, and I believe joining them would give this website even more credibility.

I am considering the addition of a "DONATE" button to this website that would enable anyone to donate via a credit or debit card or PayPal account.  I am also considering taking back up the idea of selling t-shirts to raise some funds.

What do you guys think?  I don't want anyone to think they have to pay to be part of this site by any means.  I want it to remain free.

The Muskogee War Memorial will match the 1st $40.  I challenge the other fleet boats to help out.

It would definitely put the site on the map.  There are tons of vets that belong to USSVI and other sites that woud really benefit us if they dropped in on occassion.

Hmm?  I'm already an Associate member of the USSVI, which is as good as a non-submariner can ever get.  :)

The Historic Naval Ship Association is its own organization.

I was using USSVI as an example of the large vet base out there.  More affiliations can only help more.  Especially, if they link to our website.

Ahh, true, being an Associate member of the HNSA gets you on their website, among other things I know.

Depending on interest I think the shirt idea is good. Maybe talk to the museums and see if they will sell the shirts for more of a market. Just food for thought.

It wasn't a huge sacrifice and this really is a good forum.  It costs me more to fill up a tank of gas each week and I'll be on vacation for a week in June, anyway.  So, it all works out. :)

Rick's $40 will boost us to $80.  So, $70 to go.

Rick,

I've set up a way to donate with a credit/debit card or PayPal account:
http://www.submarinemuseums.org/donate.html

My address is also listed there if need be.

Got word today that we can join as Associate members now for $100 annually.  Their year runs from October 1 - September 30, so the first round of membership would be a pro-rated $35 until October 1, where $100 would be necessary for a year of membership.  Hope that makes sense.  Jeff is putting the paperwork in the mail to me today, so we'll soon be Associate members of the HNSA.

I'm also going to work on the t-shirts some more.  I am thinking of going ahead and adding the USS Dolphin to the forums, even though she's not open to the public yet...and I'm not even certain it's 100% for certain she'll be a museum boat.  This is the main reason I haven't pursued t-shirts, because I don't know if the Dolphin is being added nor if their Russian sub is going to be subsequently scrapped.  Just have to wait and see a bit I guess.
