« on: March 30, 2008, 05:44:04 PM »
I post this question for 2 reasons.   I want to know any history that may be floating around on the caboose in the park.  I also what to know what to know how feel about its significance in what we do at the Muskogee War Memorial.

Don't scrap it...so I vote either 1 or 2.  I don't know the history of it either.  I'm sure something can come of it if someone would take ownership of the thing and see to its restoration

Lance,
Why yes, yes we do.  It was just kind of deposited at the park.  Not real sure how or why.  I am in the process of finalizing this information..

I was going to take a photo of it today...and forgot  :idiot2:  Was too involved with the 40mm and remembered on the drive home.

Maybe next time.

I've gotten everyones opinion now so I will let the cat out of the bag....

Jim Ritchey (board Chair) received an offer from the Music Hall of Fame here in Muskogee on the caboose.  They want to take the caboose and turn it in to a dressing room for their concerts.   They currently reside in the old train depot downtown and this will be a far better location for the caboose.  I have asked for 2 conditions on this transfer.  1st they move it, 2nd we get what we can out of it.  Right now nothing is on the table.  We still have to see this out.

Sounds good.  What's a realistic price for something like this?  $30K?

I do not have any idea.  30k would be nice.  I would even take a trade off like playground equipemnt or steal.  We will see what happens.

I guess it depends on how badly they want it.  If they think that they're just taking it off your hands, then steel may be all you get for it.

With the expense they'll have of moving it and restoring it for their use, it might end up being just an even trade.  I can't believe the Music Hall of Fame would have any more extra money laying around than War Memorial Park does...

It would suck, but that may be the only way to get rid of it for a "good" use.

I agree with you, but I think the Lance in more on track.  The MHF does not have any more money then we do.  Unless they are getting some type of grant involved in this.  Either way this will be a big expense for them.  We need to keep our coletive mind open to ideas.  Something good may come out of this...
