Proposed gathering of SubMuseum.org folks at COD this fall...
« on: August 28, 2008, 12:41:41 AM »
Travel is tight, and costly, but here is an idea.

I am proposing that everyone on this BBS, EVERYONE, consider coming to USS COD sometime this fall for a long weekend of fellowship, foul jokes, submarine museum discussions till O-Dark-thirty, etc. aboard the boat.  We have 85 bunks... two porta johns on the beach, and the Burke Lakefront Airport restroom facilities just 400 feet from our stern tubes (and the airport folks a very good friends  :-*  ).  Cost is transportation and some food...

If this works out, we meet somewhere else (warmer?)...  Also, if we meet in Cleveland, REQUIN is just a 2.25 hr drive, Croaker is 3 hrs away, and very doable in a day!
So you get possibly THREE FLEET SUBS for the price of one!!!  :coolsmiley:
We have hosted overnights with the TORSK crew and lots of individual members of other boats... this would be the submarine museum.org bash!

Discuss..........

I've got family in Fairborn and I will be there for about 3 days at Thanksgiving staying with my brother and his family while my son is at my Ex-Wife's house an hour away and I missed coming up to COD because my ex had planned my son's birthday party time to ensure that we were going to be unable to get to go and be back on time for his party.

Paul, you know I'd love to go up there, but right now my wife (schoolteacher) and I haven't been over 2 hours from our home in years.  We just can't afford anything like that.  We'd have to either rent a good vehicle or take a train or bus or airplane.  Hmm...I wonder if Amtrack goes up your way?

I am in with Lance.   I would love to come.  Money is tight for me as well.  I have one income and raising 2 kids by my self.   My time is also split between this boat and Cub Scouts right now.   I will have to play it by ear.  keep me posted as times and dstes come together.  \

That would be cool. But with the million things going on like everyone else it would be tough. Like Rick it all depends on the dates.
Rick, if you end up being able to go tell me, maybe we can split costs.

I would also love to come, but with this being the first year of college, i just dont see any time, plus the travel cost comes to mind, cause tuition is costly.

Paul can you figure out some dates, maybe that will help.  Also anyone on a tight budget maybe there is a way to share rides.  If I can make it I would be coming from New Jersey - glad to pickup two along the way.

There is always a way to get to the end of the road if only you begin at the beginning of the road.

Man, I sure would like to make this. Next to the Silversides, the Cod is the closest sub from my town. It would still depend on the dates, finances, and my wife letting me go, haha. Is there anyplace close I could park my 5th wheel for a couple of days?

I would be willing to work a car pool out.  My llitle kia get fairly good gas mileage and can seat 5 (including the driver).  I won't be cumby, but doable.

Your Kia is better than my truck! We would be like clowns in a circus getting out. A car pool would be worth thinking about. But where would we put the diving board?  ;D

Red Neck swimming pool in the back of an F150? I like it!

That's what I'd have too F150 with supper crew cab - sits four real good and lots of room in the bed for seabags. (OK, we can leave the wives at home)
