Some recent COD events:
« on: September 17, 2009, 10:27:58 AM »
During the Labor Day Airshow reenactor bivouac we sponsor annually, I decided to do an inservice on the Oxygen Breathing Apparatus (OBA), which figures prominently in COD's history (we almost blew ourselves to smithereens when an electric fish caught fire after a battery explosion in 1945)... we took a live OBA cannister and loaded it in a relatively recent OBA (the WWII ones aboard COD are artifacts not to be damaged). It was an interesting event and several took turns breathing the oxygen byproduct of the cannister's chemical reaction.  Here we see COD crewman Donnie Fuller, with assitance from a WWII Army reenactor (who did lots of service aboard Navy ships with OBAs) lending a hand do eject the spent cannister into cooling water.

Had you dumped the still hot OBA Canister into a 55 Gal drum of salt water it would have given you a nice surpries :2funny: that and your ears may or may not be ringing after that ;)

the instructions were very clear about no oil or petroleum products, but nothing about salt water. Thankfully we live on a freshwater lake. What happens when you salt the water?  Kaboom??    ???

In a 55 Gal drum the answer is yes if the canister is brand new, the out of date ones???
