Mystery Sub
« on: March 18, 2013, 10:59:13 AM »
Does anyone know (or have a guess) what boat or class of boat this might be? Is it even American? (My guess is German??)  It was taken in Milwauke, WI, but I know it's not a Manitowoc Boat and it's not Cobia! A local Maritime Archeologist is trying to find more info about the photo.

Here is the link incase the photo doesn't upload, http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/whi/fullimage.asp?id=47745

Thanks,
Karen

Isn't it flying an American flag?

All the U-boats taken back to the States during and after the war would have flown the American flag.  The German crews were removed and sent to POW camps during the war and American ships towed them here and American crews manned them when they traveled around after the war.

It had probably better be, being in US waters.  It might have drawn some gunfire if not.   ;)
