Whats up with the other museums?
« on: March 09, 2008, 01:15:47 AM »
Why haven't any of the other museums come in yet? Is it just they dont have much to talk about? And is there anyway to get them on here?

Some of them I don't have any contacts on.  Some of them that I did contact..the email fell on deaf ears.

Please contact any of them and ask them to come here and participate.  It's hard to light a fire under some of them for some reason...

Just got a nice letter from one of the guys at the base associated with the Croaker. One or their base members works on the Croaker keeping it up and so John is going to give him this address and hopefully we'll get him active here.

Keep in mind that many of these guys are older and not as computer savey as the younger croud tend to be.  (No offence).   We just have to keep working on them.  Specifically target the computer geeks.    :)

I understand you there Rick. I hope though that eventually we will be able to get them all on here, so all the boats can be in correspondance.

We are still looking for more contacts on the boats.  Please continue to tell anyone who will listen.  I've done all I know to make things easier here as far as reading and posting.

Here is something we'd like to share... our THEN vs. NOW shots!

COD's conningtower in 1984... missing a lot of stuff, covered by crappy hand-made signs full of errors... our lowest point:

and COD's connint tower today... the guns were an ordeal of getting something, trading up as it were, and then replicating missing parts.
Having a firm, well-documented focus date was vital. And good leadership, management, and dedicated staff.

It helped not being married for the intervening 21 years too!

Folks, I gotta tell you: as impressive as the photos are on COD's virtual tour, they don't do just to how AWESOME she looks. She is the most completely restored museum boat for all the reason Paul shares. It is well worth the trip to see her (she's open May through September); if you have kids who aren't interested or a significant other who isn't interested, drop them off at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame or the science museum while you explore the COD. We did that back in 2005 when I exposed my kid to a fleet boat for the first time we enjoyed exploring her spaces at our leisure. A true time machine.

Tell me what other submarine museums your looking for.  I've visited them all.  I have contacts at all except the Marlin.
The Marlin museum "Freedom Park" is shut down.  A candidate for contact nonetheless is w0cap.
The problem with getting a reply from them is 1) they have 100's
of things on their plate and 2) They are not familiar with this site, and the get lots of requests.
They need someone familiar to them to offer an introduction.
The easiest contact is ed Walker on the Clamagore.
Next is John McMicheal on Cavalla.
We are getting a new contact for Silversides, until then it is Bob Moran.
The Torsk has many, but I lean toward Nick Yankanovich, then Bruce Boresecker.
I'm not sure if A to Z is still on the ..... in New Jersey.
That's from the top of my head. . .need to research more.
Didn't bother to mention boats I've seen posted hear.
I visit the Razorback, Blueback and Bowfin a couple times a year.
Need to get back to the Batfish ASAP because I have a photocopy of there inventory book on CD.

Can you email me some names and email addresses if you have them?

Of those you listed, I know that John McMichael is registered on here.  Someone named "AtoZ" just registered here yesterday too.  I believe that I've sent Bruce Broserker an email about this place.

Thanks!
