Well, I started out checking the addresses from this site:

http://www.valoratsea.com/museum.htm

and many addresses and phone numbers were no longer correct.  It's amazing how many official museum sites don't even list such basic information!

I remember verifying this info when I put the list together a few months ago.  It just lacks phone numbers.

You list the Batfish:

P.O. Box 735

and the website states:

P.O. Box 235

Do you know which is correct?

I'll ask Rick.  One is a typo.

One of the things I have learned to do because of doing maps and putting up the sub memorials map on the USSVI web page at http://www.ussvi.org   is to run all addresses through the zip code checker. That at least eliminates the bad ones. Also some of the boats have more than one address that works. Many use  a POB but also several have street addresses for where the boat itself is and they also work.  We send magazines to the museum boats so have to keep our addresses correct. Sometimes the simplest thing is to call the phone number and ask. Oh yes, as you guys with the boats come on board here, please check the USSVI site and let us know if we have anything listed or shown there that you would like corrected. Perhaps you might have a better picture or want something stated. I have already had a couple of people email me to make thier site better.
Thanks
Bill

Okay, Bill.  I'm waiting to hear from Rick about the right PO Box for the Batfish.  I like the picture that you guys used for her on the USSVI Memorial page.

Mark, the address I have to send magazines to the Batfish  is P. O. Box 253, Muskogee, OK  74402-0253  Phone number is 918-682-6294 and the email for the museum is listed as ussbatfish@abcglobal.net   We get charged extra when the magazines come back, so am sure that is a good if not the only address.  I agree about the fact that the different boats make it hard to find where they are. Same way with Navy commands. Sometimes, I pull them up on a google map to find where they are located. Even the Cavalla was hard to pin down for an actual address to make the maps work. On our sub memorial maps, I am going through and checking to make sure the map that comes up, actually shows where the boat is located. The reason for the problems sometimes is that the organization will have an office somewhere that is blocks or miles away from the boat and what I put in for an address is where the map goes to. So on the memorials map, sometimes the address shown there is not the offical mailing one. However the mail list I have for the American Submariner Magazine does get the magazines delivered, so if you need an address to mail things to any of the boats, let me know and I'll get  that out to whomever might want it.

Mark,P. O. Box 253  is the address we have in our computerized mailing list. The zip shows 0253 as the last four digits also.  There maybe other addresses such as the 3500 Bat Fish Road one that the mail can be delivered to, but the one above shows up on the zip code map. The Bat Fish Address comes up on a google map, but is clear over on the other side of town and the zip code map says it isn't valid. I have found that some of these addresses that won't work with the zip code map can still have mail delivered to them, but to be safe, just use the P. O. Box.  I imagine the Batfish Road is the little entrance road going into the park, but has not been added yet to the post office system.  We know when we send out magzines if the address is wrong, because we get charged for the wrong addresses, so am sure that the POB one will work. I also am correcting the map on the USSVI pages so that the actual location will show up. I won't go into all the details of what that takes and why you can't put the marker right on the museum, but if you are interested I'll do so in an email. It gets long and complicatd to find out what works and doesn't work and why  on some of these addresses with the google map system. I will be doing this with each of the museum boat maps, but for now I do have good mailing addresses to each of them. I'll try and get the time to go verify all of these that Lance has up and let him know if some need to be changed.

Thank you guys!

Trying to sort through the addresses and phone numbers is a nightmare.  The subs haven't moved in 30 years, but nearly every one of them has varying addresses due to the changes around them.

Many of the sub parks list a physical (3500 Batfish Road) and a mailing address (P.O. Box 253).  I hate listing only the P.O. Box as that does nothing to help someone find the park/museum.

...but for now I do have good mailing addresses to each of them. I'll try and get the time to go verify all of these that Lance has up and let him know if some need to be changed.
Bill

That would be wonderful as that may be the only way to verify these addresses.  You can search the 'net and find something a little different with nearly every single one of them.  So many typos or un-updated sites!

Lance, I agree on having a street address and on the sub memorials map if there is one that is correct but won't work with the map, I put it in the comments.  The problem with the Bat Fish Road address is that I can find no indication that the city has that on their maps. It isn't shown on the map even when zooming in. You can get directions to the park by using the War Memorial Park, Muskogee, OK 74402 but even on the directions, it says unknown road. However the map itself shows the correct spot and will allow someone to get exact directions to it. This happens a lot for some of these places as the people who run the boat have an office and there is no mailing address to the site itself. Take a look at the sub memorials map for the Batfish and you'll see what I mean. I do put in the street address anytime it will work. There just isn't any uniformity on these things.
