Eye piece for Periscope on the Marlin
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:26:52 PM »
Guys, after doing a lot of searching, guess we need to find an eye piece for the Periscope on the Marlin. I'll include a couple of pictures that show where it goes and the info on the periscope. any help as to who to ask or where to find one will be appreciated. Also, I am looking for some Navy blankets and sheets for the four bunks on the boat.
Thanks,
bill

Something else I am reading up on is Navy Grey Paint and whether it is best to put on a primer that takes care of the rust or to use some other method. I hope to find some paint on one of the nearby military base close buy, but may have to buy it. Any experience and info appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Try Paul Lapinski at PJL2@comcast.net

He's a periscope guy.  He's also a registered member here on this forum.

Did someone call for the Martha Stewart of submarines???????    :crazy2:

The blankets should be easy (look in thrift stores or ebay)  The good news is I am no longer buying them so the price should be down to about $20 max. Or ask local vets. The boat was in service in the 1950s, so I am not sure if they were using the WWII cream with blue stripes or cream with black "US NAVY" on them. Hell, they may have been dark gray. Depends on the focus date (which IMHO should be the last year the boat was in service, to keep things simple).  The sheets should be easy to come by... just get 100% cotton white and cut them down and hem them to fit your 27 x 72 in. bunks.  I think ours were made to 48 x 86 in., but it's been a long time.

Pillows should be 100% down filled cotton ticking... harder to come by, but not impossible. The modern synthetics were not Navy issue until the 1970s.

Hope this helps.
